Thermal IP camera detects while HDTV IP camera with zoom identifies inside synchronized pan and tilt outdoor-ready unit

CHELMSFORD, Mass. – ISC West Booth #18051 – March 28, 2012 – Axis Communications, the world leader in network video, today announces a series of outdoor-ready, dual pan/tilt/zoom network cameras with thermal technology for detection and HDTV performance for identification at ISC West Booth #18051. The outdoor-ready IP cameras offer pan/tilt flexibility and simultaneous video from an HDTV IP camera and a thermal IP camera, allowing detection, recognition and identification from one single unit even in darkness and difficult lighting conditions.

An AXIS Q87-E Network Camera is mounted on a motor that allows the unit to tilt and pan while streaming simultaneous thermal and HDTV-quality images. The combined visual/thermal camera unit provides a powerful, dual-purpose surveillance solution ideal for round-the-clock mission critical surveillance of restricted areas, perimeters and harbors.

AXIS Q87-E Series comprises two models: AXIS Q8721-E provides a visual HDTV 1080i network camera with 10x optical zoom and autofocus combined with a thermal network camera with 384x288 resolution. AXIS Q8722-E provides the same HDTV-quality camera and a thermal camera with higher VGA (640x480) resolution. Both models are connected to the network using one Ethernet cable and offer four different lens options.

Since thermal technology detects heat signatures in a scene, the thermal network camera can achieve higher detection accuracy in complete darkness and adverse weather conditions. The visual camera with high-definition video allows for better identification of an object, animal or person. At night, the HDTV camera benefits from optional add-on IR illuminators with a range of more than 100 yards.

“AXIS Q87-E Series provides the best of both worlds for mission critical surveillance: thermal technology to detect objects with high-quality and clarity to identify if a person or vehicle has authorized access,” said Fredrik Nilsson, general manager, Axis Communications, Inc. “The synchronized pan/tilt movements will help guard, military and law enforcement personnel detect and recognize in nearly any lighting or weather condition.”

Both AXIS Q87-E models can pan 360° endlessly and tilt between +45° to -20° with a preset accuracy of 0.02°. The products are IP66-rated for dust and harsh weather conditions and have operating temperature ranges between -22 ºF to 113 ºF. Each camera has an SD/SDHC memory card slot for storing recordings locally.

AXIS Q87-E Network Camera Series is supported by the industry’s largest base of video management software through Axis’ Application Development Partner Program as well as AXIS Camera Station. The cameras include support for AXIS Camera Application Platform for application developers to create additional intelligent capabilities.

AXIS Q87-E Network Camera Series will be available in Q2 2012 at suggested retail prices ranging from $18,729 to $25,429 and require a separate power supply for operation. For photos and other resources, please visit:
