The cameras feature stainless steel housings and offer full HDTV resolution image quality. They are ideally suited for video surveillance monitoring of onshore, offshore, marine and heavy industrial environments, such as the oil and gas industry, as well as dusty environments, such as paper and textile industries.

The explosion protected network cameras are suited for hazardous areas such as oil and gas rigs and refineries and chemical processing plants.

Axis Communications, the market leader in network video, introduces its first explosion protected network cameras. XF40-Q1765 Explosion Protected Fixed Network Camera and XP40-Q1765 Explosion Protected PTZ Network Camera both feature a 316L stainless steel housing certified for hazardous areas according to ATEX, IECEx, cLCus and Class I, II/Div 1 for OSHA, among others. The housings are manufactured and certified by Oxalis Group Ltd in the UK (http://www.theoxalisgroup.co.uk/), a specialist provider of communications and security solutions for hazardous areas, and fitted with customized AXIS Q1765-LE Network Cameras.

“Plant managers in the oil, gas, chemical processing and paper and textile industries face unique security challenges, as well as safety considerations,” said Anthony Incorvati, business development manager for critical infrastructure, Axis Communications, Inc. “By partnering with Oxalis, a member of Eaton Corp., we combined our knowledge of digital network systems with their expertise in explosion protection. The result is a solution designed specifically for these demanding and hazardous conditions, creating new possibilities for advanced security and business intelligence.”

The cameras are designed not to cause an explosion. Their housings prevent any inside spark or explosion from escaping and igniting gases or dust in the surrounding air. The cameras can also be equipped with certified, explosion protected accessories, such as wall mounts, pole top brackets and a pressurized washer tank.

They provide superb image quality and color fidelity, as well as a high level of flexible integration with other equipment, such as access control and fire alarms. They offer flexible remote accessibility, using any existing IP-based networks. XP40-Q1765 also offers continuous 360° pan-tilt.

The cameras are supported by the industry’s largest base of video management software through the Axis Application Development Partner Program, and AXIS Camera Station. The cameras also include support for AXIS Camera Application Platform and ONVIF for easy camera system integration and for application developers to provide the camera with intelligent capabilities.

XF40-Q1765 and XP40-Q1765 for hazardous areas complement Axis’ wide range of network cameras. The explosion protected network cameras and their accessories are planned to be available in Q4 2015 through Axis’ standard distribution channels at the suggested retail price ranging from $6,999 to $18,499.
