Axis Introduces Affordably Priced, Easy-to-Install Pan/Tilt/Zoom Dome Network Cameras with 18x Zoom

Latest addition to the popular P55 Series brings efficient PTZ functionality to a broader market

CHELMSFORD, Mass. – March 15, 2011 – Axis Communications, the global leader in the network video market1, today presents easy-to-install indoor and outdoor professional pan/tilt/zoom dome surveillance cameras that allow users on-site or at a remote location to pan 360° over a wide area and see critical detail with 18x optical zoom. The competitively priced AXIS P5522/-E PTZ Dome Network Cameras are ideal for stores, banks, museums, warehouses, parking lots, construction sites and business campuses. 

AXIS P5522 and the outdoor-ready AXIS P5522-E network cameras support video resolutions up to D1 (720x480 in 60 Hz, 720x576 in 50 Hz) and offer day/night functionality with 128x wide dynamic range for improved image quality in both light and dark conditions. They can simultaneously send multiple video streams in H.264 and/or Motion JPEG, which can be configured at different frame rates or resolution. H.264 greatly optimizes bandwidth and storage use without compromising image quality, while Motion JPEG is supported for increased flexibility.

The indoor AXIS P5522 has an IP51 rating for protection against dust and dripping water, enabling the camera to function when a sprinkler system is activated. The outdoor AXIS P5522-E has IP66 and NEMA 4X ratings for protection against rain, snow, sun and dust. No additional enclosures are needed for either dome camera, which minimizes installation mistakes and time. To further simplify installation, both indoor and outdoor models are powered using High Power over Ethernet (IEEE 802.3at), which means only one cable is required for power, video and PTZ controls. A High PoE midspan is supplied with the cameras.

AXIS P5522/-E network cameras also offer Axis’ unique Advanced Gatekeeper functionality, which enables the camera to automatically move and zoom in to a preset position to capture, for instance, a vehicle license plate or a person’s face when motion is detected in a pre-defined area. 

When an optional multi-connector cable is used, the indoor AXIS P5522 enables users to remotely communicate with both onsite personnel and potential intruders. Additionally, the two-way microphone enables audio detection to trigger an alarm when unusual sounds are detected. The optional cable also allows connection to external devices such as sensors and relays to, for example, turn on lights or lock doors. AXIS P5522/-E cameras have a built-in SD/SDHC memory card slot that enables recordings to be stored locally. 

The cameras are supported by AXIS Camera Station video management software, as well as the industry’s largest base of application software through Axis’ Application Development Partner program.
